4 Quick Tips to Build Your Boutique’s Instagram Following

For a lot of us, Instagram is a regular part of our everyday lives. We use it to keep track of what our friends are doing, show everybody what we had for brunch, and share selfies when we’re really feelin’ cute. 

 

But if you own an online boutique, Instagram’s also a crazy powerful tool you can use to find new customers, sell more products, and get your business off the ground.

 

Sure, you don’t NEED to have a thriving Instagram to run an uber-successful online boutique… but it sure does help. With over 1 billion active Instagram users, the possibilities are seriously endless as long as you know a few tricks about how to harness its power.

Whether you’ve been posting on your boutique’s Instagram account without exciting results or you haven’t even shared your boutique business with the Instagram world at all yet, here are four great tips to build your Instagram following and get those likes rolling in:

1. Engage, Engage, Engage

Your business page shouldn’t be personality-less – it’s called SOCIAL media for a reason! Interact with your followers whenever they comment on your posts or respond to your stories. It’s good for the Instagram algorithm and good for customer loyalty!

Your own followers aren’t the only users you should be engaging with – try seeking out people who follow your competitors’ Instagram accounts and engage with them, too. Like their posts, comment on a photo, or follow them. Since these people have already shown interest in the type of products you carry by following your competitors, this can be a really effective strategy.

 

2. Use Hashtags

Hashtags can go a long way when it comes to growing your audience – especially in the beginning. Use the Instagram Explore page, competitor posts, and hashtag generator tools to find relevant hashtags that are both descriptive of your brand and often searched on Instagram. Then, use them in the caption or in a comment of each photo you post. Instagram allows for a maximum of 30 hashtags per post – make the most of that!

 

3. Partner with the RIGHT Influencers

Influencer marketing is a great way to expose your brand to a wider audience. The trick is making sure you’re reaching the right audience. Use the Explore page and relevant hashtags to search for influencers that have a high engagement rate, attract a similar following, and seem aligned with your brand values. Then, reach out to them, ask for their sponsored post pricing, and/or consider sending your product for the influencer to review and post.

 

4. Run a Giveaway

You probably already knew this... but people LOVE free stuff. Run an Instagram giveaway that encourages your audience to tag a friend (or two, or ten) and follow your account for the chance to win an item from your online boutique. This boosts your post’s engagement and helps new people find your boutique.

 

Of course, when it comes to sharing your products and your brand on social media, the most important thing is to be authentic. Make sure the content you share is genuine, on-brand, and relevant to your target audience. And be patient – it takes time to grow a loyal following, but as long as you keep delivering the sort of products and content they’re looking for, they’ll definitely stick around.
